Hampshire Senior cup 1st round
CHRISTCHURCH v TOTTON & ELING
Following Saturday’s defeat Christchurch manager Graham Kemp started with a this line up:
1 Stewart Kearn
2 Steve Linpow
3 Dan Taylor
4 Dan Crutchley (capt)
5 Chris Dillon
6 Jon Brock
7 Mark Smith
8 James Burden
9 Gareth Barnes
10 Russell Cook
11 Paul Rideout
12 Ben Osborne
14 Martin Lawrence
15 Michael Green
16 Ross Drew
17 Paul Manning
This game commenced at a fast pace and it was Totton & Eling who started the brighter. Both sides created half chances at both ends but it was the visitors who impressed with their high work rate and their fluent passing. Christchurch for the second game running failed to find any lasting rhythm and it was no real surprise when Totton & Eling took the lead after 25 minutes. An attack down their left flank should have been cut out but a woeful defensive header let in Matt Hardyman who took a touch and smashed a spectacular goal past Christchurch keeper Stewart Kearn.
Half time: Christchurch 0 Totton & Eling 1
The second half saw more of the same from Christchurch as they failed to seriously test the opposition keeper all night. Even three attacking substitutions could not raise the home sides game and following 6 extra minutes of injury time the Priory bowed out of this season’s Hampshire Senior cup with barely a whimper.
Final score: Christchurch 0 Totton & Eling 1
