Sydenham’s Wessex Combination division 1

CRISTCHURCH Reserves v DOWNTON Reserves

Manager Tim Collins selected the following line up:

1 Joe Pradomo
2 Darren Saunders
3 David Legg
4 Matt Collins
5 Steve Hillyer
6 Ian McIntosh
7 Rudi Reis
8 Alex Jones (capt)
9 Chris Mawer
10 Dave Sclanders
11 Paul Conroy

12 Peter Old
14 Shaun Brian
15 Ollie Dean
16 Dean Collins

The game started with a bitterly cold cross wind and contrasting bright sunshine. Right from the start the Christchurch side attacked and with just 3 minutes gone skipper Alex Jones slipped a beautiful through ball to centre forward Chris Mawer who expertly finished to give the home side the lead. Christchurch continued to attack with Alex Jones, Ian McIntosh, Darren Saunders and Chris Mawer all going close to extending the lead. Jones then repeated his previous glorious pass by once again putting Mawer through. A thunderous shot, which went in via the keeper’s right hand post, gave Mawer and Christchuch their second goal of the game. By now it was beginning to look like a training session for the Christchurch side but a tendency to hang onto the ball too long meant that several promising moves broke down. Downton got their first shot on target on 30 minutes but Joe Pradomo was well placed in the Christchurch goal to make a routine save. Barely 2 minutes before half time Christchurch’s Brazillian Rudi Reis swung a corner over for Paul Conroy to stoop and head the ball home. Immediately following this Christchurch attacked again and a venomous right foot volley from full back Darren Saunders was well parried by the Downton keeper. Dave Sclanders followed up well to score from the rebound. Half time and the result was all wrapped up.

Half time: Christchurch Res 4 Downton Res 0

The second half saw Christchurch pass the ball more efficiently and really this poor Downton side just could not live with them. Chance after chance were being created by this now rampant Christchurch side and 10 minutes into the half Ian McIntosh crossed for Chris Mawer to score with a bullet header and to complete his hatrick. Manager Tim Collins gave 3 of his subs a run out at this point and David Legg, Dave Sclanders and Matt Collins were replaced by Peter Old, Shaun Brian and Dean Collins. The intense pressure on the Downton goal continued and Chris Mawer went on to bag 6 goals in the game. Other scorers in the second half were Dean Collins, Rudi Reis with a perfect penalty kick and Paul Conroy with a goal that was worthy of winning any goal of the season competition. As a defender headed the ball out of the Downton penalty area Conroy connected with a left foot volley as the ball dropped over his shoulder some thirty yards from goal. The startled Downton keeper’s expression as the ball smashed into the back of the net was a joy to behold!

A good afternoon for the goal average but surely results such as this are not in anybody’s best interest.

Final score: Christchurch Res 11 (yes eleven) Downton Res 0

Wessex Combination Cup 3rd Round

Manager Tim Collins found his reserve team selection restricted because of the eligibility of some of his regular players. Those that had previously appeared in the FA cup or FA Vase or Hampshire Senior cup were not allowed to play in this competition.

1 Jason Collins
2 Darren Saunders
3 David Legg
4 Ricky Jacobs
5 Chris Dillon
6 Ian McIntosh
7 Dean Collins
8 John Armour
9 Chris Mawer
10 Alex Jones
11 Paul Conroy

12 Peter Old
14 Tom Kellaway
15 Ollie Dean

The game started in bitterly cold conditions with a freezing easterly wind blowing strongly across the Hurn Bridge pitch. Christchurch attacked strongly during the opening stages with Paul Conroy, Chris Mawer and Alex Jones all going close to opening the scoring. Darren Saunders was using the space down the right side to good advantage and whipped in several dangerous crosses. Fareham created a couple of half chances but spent most of the first half defending desperately to stop Christchurch from scoring. The half ended with a flurry of corners but again Christchurch just could not find the net in the first 45 minutes. A missed opportunity for Christchurch had created enough good chances to have had the game wrapped up by half time.

Half time: Christchurch Res 0 Fareham Res 0

The second half saw Christchurch continue attacking when Paul Conroy’s pull back was struck by Ian McIntosh who saw his shot pushed against the bar by the excellent Fareham ‘keeper. Fareham broke quickly to the other end and a good passing move ended when Jason Collins in the Christchurch goal pulled down the Fareham forward as he attempted to go around him. The resulting penalty saw Collins sent the wrong way as Fareham took the lead. Despite Christchurch going close on several occasions the equaliser would not come and in the final minute Fareham again broke quickly and snatched the second goal of the evening to seal their victory and an away game at Brading Town in the quarter final of the competition.

An entertaining game with a hatful of chances for a Christchurch Reserve side that just didn’t have their shooting boots on.

Final score: Christchurch Res 0 Fareham Res 2

Thursday 11th October 2007 Hampshire Intermediate cup 2nd round

CHRISTCHURCH Reserves v BROCKENHURST Reserves

Manager Tim Collins found his reserve team selection restricted because of the eligibility of some of his regular players. Those that had previously appeared in the FA cup or FA Vase or Hampshire Senior cup where not allowed to play in this competition. Tomorrows FA Youth cup game also meant that the under 18’s were not available for selection. However, nobody could have expected the result that followed.

1 Jason Collins
2 Peter Old
3 David Legg
4 Ricky Jacobs
5 Ian McIntosh
6 John Armour
7 Dean Collins
8 Alex Jones
9 Tom Kellaway
10 Craig Davey
11 Billy Jaworski

14 Chris Mawer
15 Michael Ferguson

The game started at quite a pace with Christchurch putting some passing moves together while Brockenhurst seemed to prefer the long ball game. Christchurch gradually got on top and despite several near misses it wasn’t until the 27th minute that the first goal was scored. And what a great move it was. David Legg advanced on the left and fed Alex Jones who in turn crossed for Tom Kellaway to strike the ball home low past the keeper’s left hand. Just 4 minutes later and Christchurch increased their lead when Craig Davey flicked the ball on for Alex Jones to take forward and score with ease. Jones then turned provider as his free kick was touched in at the far post by Billy Jaworski. Just 5 minutes to half time and Brockenhurst pulled a goal back when a low drive hit the post but then rebounded into the goal off the diving Jason Collin’s back. Play returned straight to the other end and Dean Collins crossed for the advancing Ian McIntosh to loop a header over the keeper and into the net.

Half time: Christchurch Res 4 Brockenhurst Res 1

The second half saw Christchurch play some scintillating football with Alex Jones and John Armour bossing the midfield. The passing moves meant that Brockenhurst were chasing shadows for the rest of the match. John Armour caught the opposition defence out when his quickly taken free kick hit the back of the net without the keeper moving. The goals came thick and fast as second half substitute Chris Mawer turned smartly and shot home. Then Davey rounded the keeper to score and when Jones was brought down in the box following his mazy dribble Davey scored from the spot for his second and Christchurch’s eigth goal of the evening. Still Christchurch came forward and Mawer scored again as he was tackled with still 20 minutes to go. Craig Davey then completed his hatrick when he won a tackle and smashed the ball home. Not to be outdone Chris Mawer also completed his hatrick when he spectacularly smashed the ball home and followed this with a well taken goal for his 4th and Christchurch’s 12th.

An entertaining game with a hatful of good goals from a rampant Christchurch Reserves. All credit to a young Brockenhurst side who continued to try to play football despite being outplayed at times.

Final score: Christchurch Res 12 Brockenhurst Res 1

Christchurch Res 4    Bashley Res 1

This was going to be our toughest test so far ,at the start of the game Bashley were joint 2nd with us with a game in hand.Bashley started the strongest and could have been ahead but on 10 mins with easily the best move of the game we ripped the Bash defence apart and Craig Davey rounded the keeper to slot home, 1-0. The half continued with chances coming at both ends but against the run of play Bashley were award a penalty which they converted,1-1. Chances came and went and we went in at 1-1.

Half - Time 1-1

The 2nd half Christchurch started brightly and this proved to be one of our best 45 minutes to date.We defended solidly and the midfield took more control of the game, we always looked like scoring. The 2nd goal came after Ian McIntosh won a header on the half way line which Craig latched onto and slotted past the keeper for his 2nd. Chris Mawer scored the 3rd with a shot from the edge of the box after good work from Lewis and Craig.Dean Collins scored the 4th with a 20 yard free-kick.
This was a tremendous result for the lads keeping us in 2nd spot and with Kempy and the 1st team boys doing the job at Amesbury it was a great weekend for the club.

Ringwood Town Res 1    Christchurch Res 3

Christchurch started well and and as the half went on you knew it was only a matter of time before we scored and the goal came courtesy of Dan Jones who slotted home well past the opposing keeper. The Ringwood keeper played his part making some great saves and because of that and poor finishing we went in 1 - 0 up.

Half - Time 0-1

We started the 2nd half slowly and after a dubious free-kick given on the edge of our area the resulting kick saw the ball bundled over the line as an own goal, 1-1. This gave us a wake up call and we heaped pressure on the Ringwood goal resulting in a penalty which Martin Lawrence dispatched with ease. Further pressure meant the Ringwood keeper was the busiest player on the pitch making four top class saves but the pressure paid off and Chris Mawer converted the 3rd with 10 minutes left and we ran out worthy winners.

Sydenhams League (Wessex) Combination Cup

Christchurch Res 2    Laverstock & Ford 0

It was always going to be difficult going into this game after beating them 11-0 in the league and it was noticeable they had a few different faces in their side. The lads set about there task well making good chances in the opening minutes and after a good spell of pressure Craig Davey opened the scoring after rounding the keeper to slot home. Laverstock were a better side on this occasion but the Church defense held strong and after 30 mins Chris Mawer had the keeper beaten with a superb 30 yard shot only to see it thunder down off the bar, Craig was the quickest to react and headed the ball home for his second.

Half - Time 2-0

We started the second half brightly but allowed Laverstock to have a 15 minute spell where we soaked up a bit of pressure but after making further chances ourselves and failing to convert them the game finished at 2 - 0 which was disappointing after a good 1st half.

We now play Winchester City Res in the next round at Hurn Bridge.

Yes it was 11, to be honest Laverstock & Ford were poor but we played some terrific football and totally destroyed them. We went in 2-0 up at half time and the 2nd half was men against boys. The goals came from Lewis Till 4, Chris Mawer 2, Craig Davey 2, John Armour,Billj Jaworski and Pete Old who headed home a free kick after running 50 yads to get there! A good result which puts us up to 4th and we are looking forward to our first home game on Wed night against Lymington Town Res.

Winchester City Res 2 Christchurch Res 2

We travelled up to the Denplan Stadium on Wed night, after no game on Saturday it was important we continued the good form we showed against Wimborne. We started brightly and it seemed only a matter of time before we scored, the goal came after 20 mins from Paul Conroy, a great run down the left cut inside the full back and hammered the ball home from just inside the box.Chances came and went but we did not punish some poor defending by City, going in 1-0 at half time.

The 2nd half we started slow and Winchester scored on 70 mins. we had good possesion and were still making good chances but on 86mins Winchester scored again, at 2-1 with 4 mins left we had only ourselves to blame for not killing the game off but at the death a great run and cross from the right saw Craig Davey head in at the far post. We should have won the game but travelled home with a point.
