Our first dropped points of the season was a really disappointing way to close before Christmas. We conceded a penalty early on and didn’t really respond very well. We started to panic even though there was a good 50 minutes left to play. Still we battled hard and hit post and bar numerous times. Well done to the boys for grabbing a late equaliser but some lessons about attitude for us to learn from in the New Year.

Probably our best display of the season on a very muddy River Way. Sturminster were top having won all their games apart from their draw against Longfleet. Both teams tried to play good football on a terrible pitch. For the first time this season we went a goal behind but it was really good to see the boys bounce back rather than let their heads drop. All the more impressive by the fact Sturminster brought a huge contingent of very vocal supporters. I don’t want to single anyone out because I thought everyone of the boys was outstanding today. At two all I would have settled for the draw but we kept going and deservedly got two goals and could have had more. Well done to them all.

A very cold and windy River Way was the venue for another impressive win. The pitch was surprisingly good considering we’d postponed a Bournemouth U10s game this morning. We started very slowly and seemed to lack real passion today. We created various chances but despite forcing their ‘keeper to make save after save we lacked a killer instinct today. Still we kept at it and scored about mid-way through the half (Alex with his right) and a couple of minutes later he got a second this time with his left. All he needed was the header and Richard had promised him an ice-cream (and the rest of us a beer I think!!) We had 5 by half time. Shame we conceded at 8 nil. Still plus nine to our goal difference.

Funny but I had a bad feeling about this one given it was after playing the top team last week. The pitch was on a slope and was pretty wet and slippery. We played up the slope in the first half and in the circumstances did well. We didn't quite gel but being two nil up at half time was very encouraging. We played much better in the second half and took more time and passed well. Nine goals in all and we didn't really ever look like conceding. Well done to Jack who scored on his debut! And really good to get so many players scoring.

Despite all the goals we've scored in previous games this goes down as our best performance in my book. With due respect to the other teams Longfleet were our toughest test so far (they were top after all.) It was a very windy day and we played against the wind in the first half. I said I'd be happy if it was nil nil at half time but we were actually leading two nil. To be honest we scored with about our only ventures in their half whereas Josh kept us in it with some fantastic saves. We conceded early in the second and I was interested to see how we would react under the pressure but we continued to play well and scored a third. We conceded the second close to the end. Very proud of every player - they were all brilliant and not being biased but a special mention to Oscar for scoring our third (and for the celebration.) All outfield players have now all scored.

Think I'm becoming a 'grumpy old man.' I was very disappointed in our performance this game. The scoreline will look convincing but our poorest performance of the season. There was little or no passing at all in the first half. We went in 3 - 2 up having conceded two sloppy goals. We did improve in the second half but not by a huge amount. Need to get back to our passing and talking game.

The first half was our most disappointing performance of the season.  Wareham only had 6 players but their manager was very insistent we played with 7 rather than drop a player ourselves.  They played with one very fast striker who caused us problems throughout so Josh was called upon to do more than he has so far this season.  We just didn’t pass or talk to each other at all in the first half and struggled to a 4 nil lead and half time.  We played much better second half and added a further 7.  First goals of the season for Luke and Max so well done to both of them.

Merley and us were the only two teams in the league who had played two; won two so we were not sure what to expect. Talking to their manager before, they had been together some years and were in the league last season. Still, we started well; again passing the ball well and Jake scored early. He then scored a penalty after a hand ball and throughout the first half we scored at regular intervals. This seemed to come as quite a shock to Merley and their team started arguing with each other. After we were 5 up they scored a goal but by half time we were 9 1 up. Their manager must have given them quite a talk at half time because they played much better in the second half but we still added 4 goals without reply. A special mention to Josh in goal. He was called upon three or four times in the second half and made some very good saves.

CHRISTCHURCH 2 - 3 HIGHCLIFFE
21 Sept 08

Weather: Fine Sunny
Pitch: Pitch and goals full size, grass too long

Started fairly evenly with both sides creating chances but with most of the play in the mid field area. The Christchurch defence was coming under increasing pressure with the Highcliffe forwards pace beginning to be dangerous, good work by Mikell, Mitchell, Dan and JT preventing conceding. However eventually after 12 minutes Highcliffe worked the ball on the left resulting in a goal. We responded well, the team battled for the 50-50 balls with chances starting to appear for the forwards Lewis and Stu. After 22 minutes Christchurch won the ball on the right of midfield with Marley passing the ball through to Miles who ran with it and scored shooting under the advancing goalkeeper. Thereafter followed an even period of play, two minutes before half time Christchurch got a free kick just outside the penalty area for a foul on Bradley after good link up play with Marley and Sam. Miles scored from the resulting kick high and to right of the goalkeeper.

Half Time 2-1

The 2nd half started a fast pace with Highcliffe pushing for an equaliser. The Christchurch defence battled well with Mitchell in particular being effective. However we were becoming a bit disjointed with the defence, midfield and attack becoming increasingly separated. Highcliffe were playing well and we were struggled to contain their passing game. They hit the post twice in two successive attacks. Finn made several key saves keeping us in the match. However the pressure eventually told and we conceded after they had worked the ball in from the left. In the final 10 minutes the game could have gone either way Lewis, Miles and Stu had shots saved with Sam, Marley and Bradley linking up well. The defence denied the opposition space with Dan and Mikell covering well, but the deciding goal went to Highcliffe exposing our inexperience with offside and our relative lack of pace at the back left.

Full Time 2-3.

A lovely setting and wonderful weather made for a really good day.  The pitch was very sloped and despite playing up the hill we led 4 - 1 by half time.  On reflection I was probably a bit harsh on our boys at half time and after the game.  They played very well.  Even the referee commented about our passing and the fact I shout much less than other managers.  It was unfortunate that most of our best passing moves failed to deliver goals and as a defender myself I am always disappointed to concede.  Our finishing in front of goal must improve but I am delighted at such a good start to the season.

So pleased for the boys. This team seems to have had a few knocks over the summer and so playing our first game of the season with a squad of 9 against teams we just don't know made today quite nerve-racking. But the boys responded really well. It turns out Weymouth were much the same as ourselves in that they were a group of players who had not made their 11 a side team but they have been together much longer than us. We started positively and looked comfortable. We got two early goals through Micah and that settled us and the goals just kept coming. It was ten at half time and we got a further 11 in the second. Really feel for Weymouth and we're keeping all our feet on the ground because this could be us another week!

EVERTON 0 - 19 CHRISTCHURCH

7th Sept 08
Conditions: Overcast / Dry, ground firm, grass long.

When we've played Everton in the past, we either drew, or we won by one goal, & the game was always tight, so i knew Everton were eager to get their first win over us. Both teams being eager to start the season with a win, we all knew how important it was to get off on the right foot. I played 4-4-2 formation to begin with. The game started evenly, with both teams looking lively, but it wasn't long before Sam drew fist blood with a right foot volley. Miles & Bradley working well down the right wing, excellent passing & cross after cross being lofted into the box. Our second two goals were disallowed for offside, a great header from Philip & shot from Miles. We were controlling the game, though Everton were still fighting, & occasionally breaking. Defense & midfield were working well, winning ball after ball, & supplying some quality balls to the wings & forwards. James tucked away a spilled shot from Miles. Brad scored our 3rd, with a cheeky left foot chip over the keeper, soon followed by a headed goal. Miles tucked away a free-kick shot, which was palmed away by the Keeper. Jack had an attempt on goal, but an attempted clearance from an Everton defender conceded an own goal. Sam scored again, to put us 0 - 7 up at half time.

As the second half started, Everton knew they were beaten, with the game being played in their half. I pushed a defender up to play 3-4-3. Mitchell, JT, Dan & Mikell were on good form, denying any attempts to break through, leaving our Keeper Finn, only having to make saves from long range desperate shots. Most of the action happened on the left wing, second half, with lots of counter attacking going through Sam, Marley, Philip & Charlie. Our next two goals came from James & Miles, with one shot hitting the post, Keeper & then in. Charlie put us into double figures, confidently tucking away a spilled shot from Mikell. Another 9 goals followed, all supplied by some quality passing, Stuart, Sam & Jack steering 2 in each, & Brad, Charlie & Mitchell 1 a-piece, the best of which was a high bouncing ball which everyone was sure the Everton Keeper was going to collect, & it must have been only an inch away from the Goalies grasp, but Sam appeared out of nowhere to get a sneaky head on it, & lobbed the Keeper!

Christchurch Youth FC (1) 2 (Keam Ashton, Noah Vides)
Boscombe Albion FC (1) 1

A very pleasant evening for this last match of the season against another top four side in the League. Early exchanges took place in midfield but in their first attack of the game Christchurch took the lead. Luke Matthews won the ball and launched itl forward towards Keam Ashton who ran all the way from the half way line and beat the keeper with a neat right foot shot into the corner. Christchurch looked to build on this good start but Boscombe came back into the game and started to put the Christchurch defence under pressure. This paid off when a corner from the right led to a good save by Luke Horton. The ball was not cleared properly and after a shout for a penalty Boscombe hooked the ball goalwards and the ball went into the goal off the post for 1-1. The equaliser livened Boscombe and they had the better of the play for the rest of the half, requiring keeper Luke Horton to be at his best.

Half Time 1-1

The team talk from Coach Lee Matthews appeared to do the trick as Christchurch started the second half in a very positive fashion and started to create some chances. The best of these fell to Noah Vides but he put the ball wide. However, he was not to be denied and after ten minutes of the half when more Christchurch pressure led to a corner from the right, Noah was on hand to put the ball in the net for his first goal of the season. As one would expect from a top side Boscombe came back at Christchurch, and saw a good save from Luke Horton keep them out. Pressure and a series of corners led to some anxious moments but Christchurch created several chances from breakaways for Jordyn Johnston who was foiled by the keeper and placed one effort over the bar. With sterling defence led well by Luke Matthews, and determination by the midfield, epitomised by Captain Max Miles, Christchurch hung on for a creditable win in a match where both sides deserve credit for their spirit.

Full Time 2-1

So, second in the league, semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup and the R&T Classic Trophy. A great first season of 11 a side football. Well done to all the boys, take a well earned rest, but see you at the Presentation Evening on 21 June.

Broadstone Youth (0) 1

With Christchurch needing to keep up the pressure on league leaders Kingswood in wet conditions they got the start they needed. In the third minute the ball was played into the box from the left and Keam Ashton turned well to beat the defence and shoot past the keeper. Christchurch were playing well and added a second a few minutes later when Jordyn Johnston was put through and beat the keeper with a left foot shot. Christchurch continued to play some lovely passing moves but were also forced to battle hard with a Broadstone side that showed a lot of spirit, although Luke Horton was not being troubled. At the half way point of the half Christchurch added to their lead. Broadstone did not really clear the ball after a free kick from Keam Ashton, and the ball eventually fell to the same player who hit a strong shot that the Broadstone keeper could only push on to the bar and into the net. Chances continued to be made but Josh Metcalf scored the best goal of the game towards the end of the half. The ball was played across from the left to Max Miles who played it on to Josh. Josh took a bouncing ball in his stride and beat the keeper with an unstoppable shot. The poor condition of the pitch was demonstrated when a Broadstone player badly twisted his knee just before half time.

Half Time 0 - 4

For the second half the Manager was again able to use his squad to make changes. Broadstone came out for the second half determined to try and turn things around but early on this appeared to make little difference. Bradley Goddard was rewarded for his persistence when chasing a through ball and beat the keeper to add the fifth for Christchurch. However, Broadstone started to gain more possession and their determination paid off with a surprise goal. There was a melee in the Christchurch penalty area and ball ricocheted around before an attempted clearance by Josh Cull went in off the post. The goal gave Broadstone some heart and they continued to have more of the play so that Christchurch, with Jordyn Johnston in an unusual role at left back, had to defend determinedly. Despite this Christchurch looked dangerous on the break and could have added to the score with some steadiness in front of goal and better awareness of offside. In one such break Keam Ashton forced a great save from the Broadstone keeper. From Kean's excellent corner Jamie Holmes turned the ball back across the area for Bradley Goddard to finish.

Full Time 1 - 6

The scoreline hides a battling performance against a team that had got good results against some of the other top teams.

Everton Youth (0) 1
Christchurch Youth FC (0) 12 (Jordyn Johnson (6), Keam Ashton (3), Jamie Holmes (2) Josh Metcalf)

A warm bright day for this earlier kick off in Hampshire, and what appeared to be a small pitch. Christchurch started brightly and took the lead after 2 just minutes through Jordyn Johnston making no mistake left foot with his left. With Everton playing an offside trap and some hard tackles a lot of the early play was in midfield, but the team continued to make chances and Keam Ashton and Jordan Lee went close before Max Miles put a lovely ball through to Keam Ashton who slotted the ball away. With Christchurch dominating Jordan Lee played the ball forward again to Jordyn Johnston who took the ball around the keeper to make it 0-3. Keam Ashton then took ball on to beat a defender twice before hitting a strong shot which the keeper did well to get a touch to for 0-4. Jordyn Johnston completed his hat trick when he ran through onto a clearance and took the ball around the keeper. Christchurch were looking comfortable but the best piece of play was to come starting with a move down the left. Bradley Goodard found his way blocked and played it back to Kai Budnar Hunt, and from there the ball was played inside to Luke Matthews who found Elliott Hall. Elliott took the ball on behalf unselfishly playing the ball inside to Jordyn Johnston to make it 0 - 6 with his right foot - the pick of the goals so far.

Half Time 0 - 6

The manager made a number of chances at half time, but the team started where it had left off with Jordan Lee playing finding Keam Ashton to go on and complete his hat trick. Christchurch continued to dominate play for the next 15 minutes without adding to their total. They had a lot of play and pressure but Everton blocked shots, played offside and took heart from this. However, the pressure eventually paid off when a great cross from Luke Matthews was bundled in by Jamie Holmes to make it 0-8. This started a flurry of goals when a forward ball into the penalty area was touched on by Jordyn Johnston to Jamie Holmes to beat the keeper to score his second. Everton gained a consolation when Luke Horton could only push a shot from close range into the corner of the goal, but Christchurch were not to be denied. Elliott Hall cut in from the right and his strong shot could only be pushed out by the keeper for Josh Metcalf to score. As the game went on Everton were tiring and their offside trap failed for Jordyn Johnston to go through again. And Jordyn Johnston rounded off the scoring with another 'trade mark' effort.

Full time 1-12

This was a very competent performance on a difficult pitch, but again a team effort.

Christchurch Youth FC (0) 3 (Jordyn Johnson, Josh Metcalf, Bradley Goddard)
Bournemouth Electric (0) 0

A pleasant but cool evening for this top of the table clash. Both sides understood the importance of this fixture and in the first half play was quite tight. Christchurch were not able to reproduce the outstanding passing moves of their last fixture, whilst Bournemouth Electric's more direct style did not produce really fluid football, so defences were on top. Christchurch created a couple of half chances as you expect involving Jordyn Johnston, and Elliott Hall hit the post with one of his corners, but as the half progressed Bournemouth Electric came more into it. Some Electric pressure towards the end of the first half eventually resulted in the creation of a good chance but keeper Luke Horton was equal to the shot and the ball was cleared.

Half Time 0-0.

The Manager made a couple of changes at half time to live the team up and after five minutes this paid off. Substitute Noah Vides made a strong run down the left and was able to play the ball in to Jordyn Johnston to finish in his usual style. The goal settled Christchurch and they started to play some of their normal football. Chances were created as Christchurch searched for the second goal, but Bournemouth Electric held firm, aided by a couple of good saves by their keeper. This appeared to give Electric some confidence and as the half wore on they put the Christchurch defence under pressure. A number of attacks down the Electric left side created problems for the Christchurch but the central pairing of Max Miles and Luke Matthews were outstanding. Nevertheless Electric created a couple of half chances including a shout for handball in the area. Then with five minutes or so to go an Electric mix up at a throw in gave Christchurch the opportunity to counter attack down the right leading to Josh Metcalf being put in after a few quick passes and he hit his shot inside the post. With the benefit of a two goal lead Christchurch appeared to relax a little and just before the end a cross to the far post from the right was headed in by Bradley Goddard.

Full Time 3-0.

This was a hard fought game, played in a very good spirit by both sides. Christchurch should thank Luke Matthews (who even got praise from Lee) and Max Miles for giving them the defensive platform for this important win.

Next game at Everton, with an earlier kick off time.

New Milton Robins (0) 2
Christchurch Youth FC (6) 9 (Jordyn Johnson 4, Josh Metcalf 2, Bradley Goddard, Luke Matthews, Jordan Lee)

On a warmish day, at an early kickoff, Christchurch played facing the wind on a big pitch. Both sides took time to settle, although Jordyn Johnson had an early chance. Christchurch opened the scoring after !0 minutes when an Elliott Hall corner was flicked in by Bradley Goddard. This time there was no hint of offside! Christchurch started to dominate and scored again when Jordyn Johnston was put through to make it 2-0. Another chance was created by Jordyn who played in Keam Ashton, who hit the ball just past the post. The lads were playing some lovely passing football and another passage of play led to Elliott Hall hitting the woodwork but Jordyn folowed up to score. Another Elliott Hall corner found Luke Matthews to head into the net for 4-0. This was soon followed by a ball down the middle for Jordyn Johnston to make no mistake for his hat trick and he got a fourth when Keam Ashton put him through again with a perfect pass. Half time 6-0.

The Manager made a number of changes in the second half but Christchurch again showed how dangerous they could be when another Elliott Hall corner this time found Jordan Lee who headed in strongly. The lads created a couple of half chances but then New Milton exerted their first period of pressure and pulled one back. Christchurch responded with a move down the right which found Josh Metcalf in space to score. New Milton came back again when despite the offside flag the referee allowed the New Milton forward to move on to score to make it 7-2. Christchurch finished off the scoring when Max Miles who had moved into midfield put in a great through ball to Josh Metcalf to push past keeper. Full Time 9-2.

This was a great great team performance with some of the passing moves being a joy to behold.

This re-arranged game against the team Christchurch had defeated in the Easter R&T Final kicked off in bright late evening sunshine. Christchurch took control of the early exchanges but were unable to convert this into goals, with a number of decisions going against them. Then midway through the half disaster struck when a ball from the Hawks right was not cleared and Highcliffe took the lead. Christchurch came back, but found it difficult to find a way through until Keam Ashton scored to equalise, before the end of a rather short first half. Half Time 1-1.

Christchurch attacked straight from the start of the second half and were unlucky to have an effort disallowed for offside. But the team was not to be and top goal scorer Jordyn Johnston netted to give Christchurch the lead. Another controversial decision for offside robbed Bradley Goddard of a spectacular goal from 20 yards, and Bradley was booked in the ensuing arguments. Again decisions seemed to be going against Christchurch but the team then did an admirable job in keeping calm aided by further goals from Jordan Lee and Jordyn Johnston. Full time 1-4.

Fresh from their triumph at the Easter R&T Tournament Christchurch took to the field with a reduced squad for this home league game. Early exchanges were even as both sides tried to cope with the strong wind, but after eleven minutes Jordyn Johnston was put through by Josh Metcalf down the left, and he finished with a neat shot across the keeper. The Robins responded and put some pressure on Christchurch with their long throw ins and Luke Horton had to move quickly to push a shot away. Christchurch were also creating chances and Jordyn went close with a right foot effort, before Christchurch added a second. Keam Ashton went through the middle and the Robins keeper saved well but Jordyn Johnson followed up to make sure the ball went into the net from close range. Just before half time Christchurch added a third, with Jordyn completing his hat trick when a Keam Ashton corner evaded the Robins defence for Jordyn to nod in.

Half Time 3 - 0.

The Robins team, which had only conceded 12 goals up until this match came out strongly in the second half, and the game became more physical. Christchurch were also facing the wind so that Robins had a bit more of the ball. Nevertheless Christchurch defended well with Luke Matthews performing strongly alongside Max Miles in the centre of defence. Robins were restricted to long range efforts which Luke Horton dealt with easily with one exception when he needed three attempts to clutch the ball. At the other end Chistchurch continued to look dangerous with some flowing passing moves, and their play was rewarded with another goal for Jordyn Johnston who followed up on an Elliott Hall effort. Jordyn rounded off the scoring with another well taken goal having been put through with a fine pass from James Young.

Full Time 5 - 0.

This was a hard fought win against a tough team that had not conceded more than three goals in a league game this season. The squad needs to rest and recover from all their knocks and bruises before the important midweek game against Kingswood.

Hordle Spurs (0) 0

Despite the heavy rain before kick off, with some pools of water on the pitch, the sun shone for the start of this league game. Christchurch were missing a couple of players but started brightly and soon got into their passing style using the width of the pitch. The team went on to create a number of chances and opportunities fell to Josh Metcalf, Keam Ashton, Jordan Lee and Elliott Hall, but the Hordle keeper dealt with everything that was on target, and the Hordle defence made some excellent covering tackles. Some composure was needed in front of goal. Although Hordle forced a number of corners their efforts on goal were restricted to a couple of efforts from outside the area, well held by Luke Horton.

Half Time 0 - 0.

With Christchurch unusually goal shy the fear of the4 spectators was that they would be vulnerable to a Hordle breakaway. This fear was almost given life when at the start of the second half Luke Horton had to move quickly to block a dangerous Hordle effort. Christchurch then resumed the pattern of the first half, dominating possession aided by the wind at their backs. However, despite the pressure goal efforts were weak, with the ball perhaps sticking in the mud, the Hordle keeper sure, and his defence making some great tackles. Then half way through the second half the deadlock was broken in a slightly fortunate manner. Following a couple corners by Elliott Hall, one from the left evaded a number of players but in an effort to clear a Hordle defender could only assist the ball into the goal. The goal did nothing to ease Christchurch's anxiety in front of goal and further chances were spurned. The Hordle players appeared to sense this and saw the opportunity to salvage a point, but in the end Christchurch were able to see out the game.

A hard fought win, but a win it was so well done to the lads, and also to Hordle for their determination.

Contrary to the forecast it was a fine sunny day for this semi final clash at Iford Lane. Neither side dominated the opening exchanges, although Pace looked a slightly stronger team physically, and seemed to win more of the loose balls. However, it was Christchurch who created the first real chance mid way through the first half. The ball was worked neatly down the right for Keam Ashton to draw a great save from the Pace keeper. The resulting corner was cleared but Christchurch controlled the ball and played it wide for Keam to cross but Jordan Lee put his effort wide. Pace responded and created a good shooting chance but Christchurch defended well blocking the shot. A couple of Pace attackers were tricky on the ball and started to exert some pressure, whilst Christchurch looked to create chance on breaks using Jordyn Johnston's pace. From one such break Jordyn won the ball after a mistake by the Pace keeper but his effort found the keeper rather than the failed to find the unmarked Keam Ashton in the middle. Pace then broke away, and their forward beat two defenders but his shot went narrowly over the bar.

Half - Time 0-0

Christchurch started strongly in the second half, and an early chance fell to them but unfortunately the referee called a foul. The game and play appeared evenly balanced but Pace looked stronger on the ball. They created another good shooting chance from the edge of the area but keeper Luke Horton was equal to it. However, the Pace pressure was then rewarded when their star player beat two definers in the box before sliding the ball past Luke Horton's left hand for the opening goal. The loss of the goal appeared to knock Christchurch backwards and the team had difficulty clearing the ball from their half. The resulting Pace pressure culminated in a penalty being awarded for a challenge on the left hand side of the area, but the team were relieved to see the penalty kick go wide. Christchurch responded and switched formation and at last put some pressure on the Pace defence with some better passing moves. The best chance in this spell was created from an Elliott Hall corner. This was headed on for James Young who unfortunately put his header just past the post. Just as a comeback appeared possible disaster struck for Christchurch when a hopeful looping shot that looked to be going over the bar ended in the back of net. Pace were able to play out the remaining minutes comfortably, ending Christchurch's cup dream.

Final Score 0 - 2

Despite their defeat the Christchurch lads fought hard and can take comfort that Pace Youth were the strongest team they have played this season - the only one to stop them scoring so far. Good luck to Pace in the final and back to concentrate on the League next Sunday

Bournemouth Electric (1) 2
Christchurch Youth FC (1) 2 (Jordyn Johnston 2)

A fresh wind and a hard pitch set the scene for this tense top of the table clash. The early exchanges were fairly even with neither side able to control the ball well. However, after five minutes Jordyn Johnston was put through down the left and with only the keeper to beat the crowd expected the opening goal but his shot went wide. A few minutes later a Bournemouth Electric player went through the middle but keeper Luke Horton did well to push the shot around the post. Christchurch started to come under some pressure, and following a Bournemouth Electric corner they took the lead. With the ball in the box Christchurch players made several inefective attempts to clear it when it fell to a Bournemouth Electric player in space on the edge of the penalty area and he hit an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner. Christchurch came back and put on their own pressure, but with a few last ditch tackles and a clearance it looked like an equaliser was going to be difficult to find. Then out of nowhere, following some scrappy play around the Bournemouth Electric penalty area Jordyn Johnston put in a shot over the keeper's head. Half Time 1 - 1.

Both teams were struggling with the conditions, failing to keep the ball on the ground, and Christchurch were not managing to reproduce their usual passing football. A lot of play was taking place in midfield where both teams were trying hard to win the ball. As the half progressed Christchurch started to make a few good moves with Jordyn Johnston working hard down the left. His battling efforts were rewarded when he again went down the left, managing to keep hold of the ball when he seemed outnumbered before beating the keeper from a narrowish angle to put Christchurch in the lead. Bournemouth Electric came back as the wind seemed to be slightly more in their favour. They created several shooting opportunities that Luke Horton held on to well, but Christchurch had difficulty in getting out of their own half. Eventually pressure told and when the ball wasn't cleared the ball was crossed into the Christchurch area from their right, and turned into the net. Either side were still capable of winning the game, as both sides created chances. Jordyn Johnston saw one effort well saved by the keeper, and had a reasonable shout for a penalty. Injuries forced two changes in defence for Christchurch which caused some uncertainty, but they saw the game out to the end. Full Time 2 - 2.

A hard fought game played in a good spirit by both teams, and again the lads showed character to come back from a goal down. Given the situation of the teams perhaps Christchurch will be the happier side having won a point.

Next week we look forward to the visit of Pace Youth in the semi-final of the Hampshire Cup.

Christchurch Youth FC (2) 5 (Josh Metcalf (2). Luke Matthews, Jordan Lee, Keam Ashton (pen))
Lymington Sprites (0) 0

Christchurch had a comparatively quiet start against a team at the lower end of the division and took sometime to get going unlike their performance last week. However, after 13 minutes a throw in on the right led to a cross by Elliott Hall which Luke Matthews headed over the keeper to open the scoring. A few minutes later the ball was worked down the left and Bradley Goddard crossed the ball into the area for substitute Josh Metcalf to beat the keeper with a strong shot. Josh then featured in another move this time down the right but his excellent cross eluded the incoming Christchurch players. Despite their lead Christchurch were not really dominating play and Lymington should have pulled one back after 20 minutes when their forward rounded keeper Luke Horton but contrived to put the ball wide. Christchurch created two more attempts on goal before half time through a long range shot from Jordan Lee and a good chance for Jordyn Johnston which we hit wide.

Half Time 2 - 0.

With a couple of changes the Christchurch team started the second half determined to finish off the game. From a free kick Jordan Lee put the ball in the net but was offside, and then a good run down the right by Keam Ashton took him round the keeper but his shot went into the side netting. Another run down the right saw Keam cross the ball to Josh Metcalf who had time but placed his shot wide. More goals seemed inevitable and came at last when in a breakaway move the ball fell to Josh Metcalf, who this time made no mistake with a looping shot into the top corner. Josh then put Keam Ashton away down the right with a lovely flick, and with the keeper coming out Keam unselfishly played the ball across to Jordan Lee to score easily. Another good passing move led to an opportunity for Jordan Lee to shoot over before Jordyn Johnston was put through and was taken out by the keeper. After both players had taken time to recover, Keam Ashton put away the resulting twice taken penalty. More substitutions for Christchurch led to some scrappy play and Lymington's only real chance of the half when the referee deemed an attempted clearance to be a backpass. However, the resultant free kick went over the goal. Despite a lack of fluent play Christchurch continued to make chances. Jamie Holmes failed to beat the keeper on two occasions, Josh Cull shot over when the ball fell to him at a corner, and too many times Christchurch players fell into an offside trap.

Final score 5 - 0.

Overall this was the result required but not achieved in the flowing style of last week. Life at the top will never be easy!

Bransgore Youth (0) 0
Christchurch Youth FC (7) 11 (Jordyn Johnston 2, Keam Ashton 3, Jordan Lee 2, Elliott Hall, Josh Metcalf, Bradley Goddard, Max Miles)

Christchurch returned to the League against a Bransgore team which had put together a couple of good results since the New Year. However, on another spring-like day Christchurch quickly got down to business when after 4 minutes a shot by Keam Ashton was saved by the Bransgore keeper but Jordyn Johnston made no mistake in following up. Bransgore attempted to play their way back into the game but after 11 minutes a throw in on the left went through to Keam Ashton who finished crisply. Four minutes later patient play on the right between Jack Clements and Elliott Hall led to a Jordan Lee shot being jumped over by Jordyn Johnston to confuse the keeper to make it 3-0. In the next minute a speculative shot by Elliott Hall was fumbled by Bransgore keeper and crawled over the line for 4-0. Christchurch were dominated now and chances fell to Jordyn (can't hit a barn door with his right foot) Johnston, Nathan Lever and Jordan Lee before Bransgore had their first real chance of the game. From a Bransgore attack developing just in the Christchurch half the ref oddly deemed an attempted clearance collected by keeper Luke Horton, as a back pass back, giving a free kick to Bransgore inside the area. However, the kick was eventually cleared and Christchurch soon broke away for Keam Ashton to add the fifth. Soon Jordyn Johnston tackled back to win the ball and got the ball back to go through and round the keeper and score right footed! Keam Ashton completed off the scoring for the half by completing his hat trick.

Half Time 7 -0.

Changes in team for the second half meant Christchurch too a little time to settle down, but after 5 minutes a lot of pressure eventually paid off with Jordan Lee slotting the ball home. Although Christchurch dominated for long periods the goals dried up for a while and the Bransgore keeper regained some of his confidence. But Josh Metcalf hit the bar with a rasping shot but then Bradley Goddard went through several tackles along the left hand byline before scoring from a narrow angle. Christchurch's patient short passing game had been a strong feature of their performance, and now a good example of this down the right wing between Josh Metcalf and Elliott Hall led to a great cross that unfortunately was missed in the middle, but when it was played back into the middle again Josh Metcalf was there to score. Birthday Boy Max Miles was keen to join in the scoring and had a couple opportunities, including one where he went through the middle from his own half. Eventually his team mates teed him up for a shot that he put away to complete the scoring.

Final Score 11-0

A comfortable performance by the team, perhaps aided by some nervous goalkeeping. However, the Manager's preference for simple passing movements shone through!

Hampshire Cup Quarter Final Under 11s
Christchurch Youth FC (1) 2 (Jordyn Johnston, Luke Matthews)
Denmead Youth FC (0) 0

A bright spring-like day greeted the visitors from Portsmouth in this quarter final cup tie. Christchurch started brightly with some good passing moves. The first opportunity came when Keam Ashton cut in from the left and the goalkeeper could only push his shot away. Unfortunately the ball evaded the Christchurch players following up. Soon Denmead started to find their feet and put some moves together, particularly down their left hand side. They created three chances in succession, with the last one counting more of a missed chance when the ball was sent wide of the goal. During this spell in an isolated attack Jordyn Johnston put the ball over when in a good position. However, after 22 minutes Jordyn did get the first goal following some patient Christchurch play. From a throw in near the Denmead corner flag on the left Christchurch worked the ball back into a position where it could be played forward into the area. The ball was nodded on and Jordyn Johnston nipped in to head the ball past the keeper. Denmead came back and threatened with some good runs on the ball by their left sided midfielder, and the unsettling presence of their tall central attacker, but Christchurch held out.

Half Time 1 - 0

As expected Denmead started the second half searching for the equaliser, putting pressure on the Christchurch defence. A number of free kicks and corners had to be defended well, and Christchurch were forced to rely on breakaways. In one of these Jordyn Johnston broke clear but was unable to put the ball on target. Then came a great goal to settle Christchurch nerves. Christchurch had some good possession and worked the ball from left to right. Good interplay which included Keam Ashton led to Luke Matthews being put clear to fire in a great shot from just inside the area. Denmead did not let their heads drop and continued to try and get back into the game, making a couple of substitutions and attempting to apply pressure. However, the defence continued to keep them out and Max Miles deserves mention for clearing two efforts off the line.

Full Time 2 - 0

This was a great game, played in good spirit by two teams who should be congratulated for their play, but well done Christchurch!

Kingswood Youth (0) 2
Christchurch Youth FC (0) 1 (Jordyn Johnston)

This clash between the two unbeaten sides in the League took place in windy conditions blowing predominantly across the pitch. Kingswood were first to show with a shot wide and some early pressure from corners but having got through this initial phase Christchurch started to dominate the midfield. The last quarter of the half saw Christchurch putting pressure on Kingswood who relied on breakaway attacks from their speedy forwards. However, Noah Vides and Jack Lines stood firm on the flanks supporting Josh Cull and Max Miles in the centre. Despite dominating possession Christchurch had been creating few clear cut chances until the closing minutes of the half. Keam Ashton showed great vision to send Josh Metcalfe down the right and his cross was headed over by Jordyn Johnston. Then a Keam Ashton free kick from the edge of the area caused panic in the Kingswood defence until the keeper dropped on the ball.

Half Time 0 - 0.

Christchurch made a disastrous start to the second half when they conceded a goal in the first minute. The defence failed to clear the ball on the left and Luke Horton was beaten at the near post. Despite this set back Christchurch continued to dominate possession without creating clear cut chances. Kingswood defended well, tackling back and blocking shots and passes. As the half progressed some of their tackling began to get desperate and from one of the resulting free kicks Christchurch should have equalised. Keam Ashton sent the ball into the area three Christchurch players had chances to score but their efforts were blocked.

Luke Horton had not been forced into action much but found himself picking the ball out of the net again. A Christchurch goal kick was not cleared on the left and Luke was beaten by a shot to the far post. Christchurch looked out of it but the lads picked themselves up again and five minutes from time pulled one back. For the first time Jordyn Johnston found himself some space and ran through on to a pass to shoot past the keeper. Now Christchurch threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser, inevitably leaving some gaps at the back that resulted in a Kingswood player getting free through the middle but he shot wide. Christchurch tried hard but Kingswood managed to keep getting a vital boot to the ball. Full Time 1 - 2.

Both sides can take credit for their efforts in difficult conditions. The effort of the Christchurch players could not be faulted, and on the basis of play and possession did not deserve to lose this one.

Next week it is back to the Hampshire Cup, with the quarter final game against Denmead from Portsmouth Youth League, at Iford Lane.

Christchurch Youth FC (0) 5 ( Jordyn Johnston 2, Elliott Hall, Josh Metcalf, Keam Ashton)

With 3 players missing, all of whom had played in goal at some stage this season, Josh Cull volunteered to go between the posts much to the relief of the rest of the team. Christchurch started well with a lot of possession but many of their passing moves faltered as they failed to played together. Nevertheless, the Corfe Mullen keeper was the busiest until half way through the half and the first time Josh Cull was called into action was to pick the ball out of the net. Two defenders failed to clear and Josh had no chance with the shot to the far post. The half continued with Christchurch unable to to turn possession into goals and the Crofe Mullen keeper holding everything, although most shots were directed straight at him. Half Time 0 - 1.

Following a team talk which resembled the sort probably given by Benitez at Anfield the previous day, and a few changes, Christchurch came out for the second half determined to turn things around. Typically it was Jordyn Johnston who got the equaliser five minutes into the half, when he was released by Luke Matthews. A few minutes later Elliott Hall drove in from the right and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Now Christchurch were starting to put some good passing moves together, and it was no surprise when Jordyn Johnston picked up his second. Substitute Josh Metcalfe scored number four when he went through down the right hand side. Keam Ashton, who had previously hit the post, rounded off the scoring with a strong free kick from left, outside the penalty area. Christchurch could have had even more in this half, notably when black-eyed Jamie Holmes shaved the post on the wrong side. In defence, with the central partnership of Max Miles and Hugh Chambers standing firm, Josh Cull dealt with the occasional long range shot capably and launched some good long balls to the attack. Final Score 5 - 1.

The lads did well to turn the game round and need to learn that as league leaders everyone will be looking to raise their game against them. They cannot afford to take any team lightly.

Next week's game away to Kingswood will prove a real test.

(After Extra Time)

A blustery wind, fortunately blowing across the pitch, was a feature of this Hampshire Cup tie, against a team lying second in their Southampton Tyro League. Christchurch, not renowned for their good starts, took everyone by surprise by taking the lead in the first minute when Jordyn Johnston went through to beat the keeper with a left foot shot. Christchurch dominated the early exchanges, seemingly able to control the ball better, and Pace were limited to sporadic attacks. Christchurch were unable to make more of their control until on 18 minutes, when Jordyn added a second in similar fashion to his first. More chances followed when the Pace keeper miskicked but managed to get back and clear off the line, Keam Ashton put the ball wide, and Noah Vides hit the post, but Pace started to get back into the game and forced Luke Horton into a couple of good saves, Luke holding onto the ball well. Then just before half time Pace broke down the right, and the cross to the far post evaded defenders but not the Pace attacker whose shot Luke was unable unable to keep out.

Half Time Christchurch 2 - 1.

The boost of the goal just before half time and the pep talk of their manager appeared to give Pace confidence, and the second half saw them make better use of the conditions. It was not a real shock when Pace equalised following some hesitation in the Christchurch defence and they started to dominate the midfield area. Despite the pressure Christchurch were under they were able to make chances on the break. Jordyn Johnston twice brought excellent saves from the Pace keeper, and his pace was a constant threat recognised when he was tripped when chasing a ball through the middle. Keeper Luke Horton continued to keep Pace at bay and neither side was able to break the deadlock as normal time ended.

Full Time 2 - 2

In the first half of extra time Pace continued to have the better of the play whilst Jordyn provided the main threat for Christchurch, but the wind and the pitch continued to give both teams difficulties. Early in the second half Christchurch at last produced some sustained passing movement, and running across the Pace defence Jordyn Johnston found Elliott Hall on the right and he beat the Pace keeper with an excellent shot. With time running out Pace forced Luke Horton into another fine save, and applied pressure from free kicks and corners. Christchurch in turn dug in and showed excellent character against a team that appeared physically stronger, and tried to make the best of their breakaway chances. After what seemed like an age the referee blew for time and the Christchurch team and supporters showed their delight at winning this exciting cup tie.

Final Score 3 - 2 (aet).

Both teams should be congratulated on producing a pulsating game, played in excellent spirit, despite the conditions. This places Christchurch in the Quarter Final of the Hampshire Cup on the 10 February.

Christchurch Youth FC (3) 6 ( Josh Metcalf 2, Elliott Hall, Luke Matthews, Jordyn Johnston 1, Own Goal 1)
Branksome United Youth FC (0) 0

After a break of several weeks because of postponed and conceded fixtures and Christmas (except for the defeat against the Dads) Christchurch started the New Year with a home return fixture against Branksome United. Christchurch applied early pressure and this was rewarded when Jordyn Johnston went down the left and crossed for Josh Metcalf to open the scoring with a first time shot. Christchurch continued to press and a second goal soon followed. Noah Vides made a fine run down the left from his own half and fed the ball to Jordyn. His cross shot was parried out to Elliott Hall, who made no mistake. It was half way through the first half before Luke Horton touched the ball, following a shot in a rare Branksome breakaway. For the rest of the half Christchurch continued to make chances, with Jordan Lee hitting the post, before they added a lucky third when an attempted clearance hit a Branksome United player and rebounded into the goal. Half Time 3 - 0.

Branksome United started the second half brightly bringing the Christchurch keeper into action early but the game then settled into its earlier pattern, with a lot of Christchurch possession and neat midfield play. This brought a number saves from the Branksome United keeper, although the ball was often crossed too close to him to create real chances. More goals seemed inevitable and five minutes into the second half another came when Jordyn laid the ball back to Luke Matthews who hit a great shot from the edge of the penalty area. Soon afterwards Josh Metcalf made a good run down the right and cut in to score his second with the help of a deflection. Josh then made another good run down the right and crossed for Jordyn Johnston to net by meeting the ball first time with his left foot. More chances followed but Branksome United and their keeper stood firm despite the pressure and to their credit did not let their heads drop. On the other hand Christchurch were not as clinical as they have been earlier in the season. Final score 6 - 0.

Overall a good start to the New Year and it is pleasing to report that the referee did not fall over once - thanks to his new boots!

Next week back to the Hampshire Cup, in what should be a very interesting home tie.

Christchurch Youth FC (2) 4 ( Keam Ashton 3, Jordyn Johnston 1)
Greenfields Youth FC (1) 1

Following the drawn away game to Greenfields Youth in September Christchurch knew that this was going to be a tough fixture, but they had the better of the first ten minutes, making a couple of half chances. Gradually Greenfields got more into the game with one effort going past the post and another being well held by keeper Luke Horton. However, Christchurch continued to go forward, with Jordyn Johnston blazing over from close range, and Josh Cull beating the keeper but not the defender on the line. It was no surprise when Christchurch took the lead when after some pressure a spectacular overhead kick by Jordyn Johnston found Keam Ashton who placed a shot just inside the post. As expected Greenfields worked hard to get back in the game, and won a couple of corners. Despite chances to clear the second corner Greenfields equalised with a good shot towards the top corner. More Greenfields pressure followed but Christchurch broke away through the hard working Jordyn Johnston who was brought down. Despite the resulting free kick being cleared initially the ball was played back into Keam Ashton who turned neatly to hit a low shot into the corner of the goal. Half Time 2-1.

The first ten minutes of the second half were evenly contested with neither side creating chances, but then Jordyn Johnston was rewarded with his efforts. He showed how dangerous he can be when one on one with a defender and scored without giving the keeper any chance of a save. Christchurch then quickly added another. Man of the match, full back Jack Clements won another tackle and sent Jordyn Johnston away down the right. His ball forward took Keam Ashton into the area to go on and complete his hat-trick. The rest of a game was mainly a midfield battle, with neither side making real chances, so the game ended 4-1.

So another win keeps Christchurch top of the league, founded on solid defence, and at times some good short passing moves. Well done to all.
